Item vs. System Level Security

I am trying to deploy RS in a corporate environment. I have folders set up at
different organizational levels. I would like to allow certain users only
within those organization levels to create linked reports and deploy them
within their respective organizational levels. I thought that by granting
those users full item-level security they could achieve this. Unfortunately,
when I tried this it did not work.
1. Which task allows users to view report properties and create linked
reports? I'm assuming this is a system-level task.
2. Is there any way that I can assign this task to a role which restricts
the user to only exercising that authority only within a certain folder. I
obviously don't want to give the user the ability to create linked reports
site wide but only in the respective organizational folder.
3. Is there anyway to combine system-level and item-level tasks into a
single role or to customize security configurations?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
TedCreating linked reports is an item level task. In report manager go to the
site settings tab and then the 'Configure item-level roledefinitions' link.
From here you can create roles as you see fit. One of the tasks you can
assign is 'Create Linked reports'. You can not combine system and
item-level task, but then again you shouldn't need to.

it is save to reindex table system ?

Hi friends,
Is it save to reindex (dbcc reindex) table system in db
master, msdb, model ?
Can we truncate datafile & log in tempdb ?
How to determine size of db in tempdb ?
Please advice.
Thanks.> Is it save to reindex (dbcc reindex) table system in db

I wouldn't recommend this unless you have a very good backup in place. Why
do you think you need to reindex these tables?
> Can we truncate datafile & log in tempdb ?
Sure, see http://www.aspfaq.com/2446
> How to determine size of db in tempdb ?
Using Query Analyzer:
USE tempdb
GO
EXEC sp_spaceused|||Not only that but DBCC DBREINDEX does not allow system tables to be
reindexed (in SQL Server 2000)

If we cannot use reindex (dbcc reindex), can we defrag it

Thanks.

fragmentation until you get several dozen pages at least.

Issue with File System Task and folder locking

I'm having an issue where a folder that I'm accessing in an SSIS package gets locked up and cannot be deleted by my package later in the process.

1) I use a File System task to rename the folder. At this point, it appears to become locked and cannot be deleted.

2) Later I attempt to delete the folder using another File System task object. I get the error '[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."'.

My package accesses the folder via a drive mapping. This seems to be part of the problem, as it's possible to delete the folder directly but not via the drive mapping. Even once the package completes it's still not possible to delete the folder in Windows Explorer via the drive mapping.

I've since rebooted my machine and re-created the network drive mapping and the problem has gone away.

Issue installing SQL Server Express on Visual Studio Beta 2

Hi,

I have installed VS 2005 Beta 2 (Team System) using a DVD available from MS TEch Ed. This also installs SQL Server 2005 Express edition along with other tools. This installation is done on a vpc.

However when I try to install SQL Server Express Manager over this installation, I get "The installer package could not be opened. Contact the vendor to make sure to verify that the Windows installer package is valid".

Is there a solution to get this resolved ?

Thanks in advance !
It likely that you need to download the file again. Also not that you may need to uninstall the .Net Framework and re-install the version that SQL Server shipped in its June CTP as the NetFx version between Vs Beta 2 and SQL CTP June is different.

How to find out whether the IsRowGuid flag is set for a particular column or not?
